Our Honours and Awards acknowledge the unsung heroes of our profession; those who have upheld and improved the standards of dentistry.
Current recipients
Honorary Membership
Considered to be one of the Association’s highest honours; one which is rarely awarded.
Fellowship Medal
Distinguished service to the Association and the dental profession.
Life Membership
Honours long and valuable service to the Association, particularly at Branch, Group, and local levels, by significant service beyond regular attendance at meetings and usually by significant representation at national level.
John Tomes Medal
Honours members of the dental profession and of scientific eminence, or persons distinguished in medical or allied services, for their outstanding service to the dental profession or the Association.
BDA Roll of Distinction
Honours outstanding services to UK dentistry.
Certificate of Merit for Services to the Profession
Recognises any special service at any level of dentistry either nationally or internationally. Generally it is reserved for dentists and other persons who have contributed to academic or other work in furthering the profession, or individuals active in promoting advancements within the dental profession.
Award for Excellence
This new award recognises special service at any level of dentistry either nationally or internationally and in general is reserved for dentists and other persons who have contributed to work in furthering dentistry or the profession, or individuals active in promoting advancements within the dental profession.
Joy Harrild Award for Young Dentists
The Joy Harrild Award for Young Dentists is open for nominations for younger dentists who have made a significant contribution to the profession. It is named after a young dentist, Joy Harrild, whose life was tragically cut short in 2016.
