IN-PERSON EVENT, hosted by the Lancaster and Morecambe Section

What to expect

Join us as we explore implant failures and managing challenging cases.

Our speaker, Finlay Sutton, will provide insights into the construction of state-of-the-art complete dentures and partial dentures in patients who have lost dental implants, helping attendees to gain improved understanding of how to make excellent impressions in order to maximise retention and suction and appreciate that good quality removable dentures are a valid alternative to implant supported restorations.

Timings

18:30 Registration and networking

19:00 Lecture starts

20:00 Lecture ends and networking

Learning objectives

  • To have improved awareness of managing emotionally damaged (“difficult”) patients who are understandably wary of the dental profession
  • To see examples of managing challenging cases e.g. large defects of supporting tissue where implants have failed, using sectional impressions to improve the fit of immediate dentures, occlusion difficulties using overlay rest seats, denture support problems.

Meet the speaker

Finlay Sutton Finlay Sutton Specialist in Prosthodontics

Finlay is based in Garstang (North West England) limiting his clinical work to removable prosthodontics. Together with his highly skilled dental technician (Rowan Garstang), working in the room next door, they provide patients with superbly functioning and life-like dentures – often profoundly improving their quality of life.

He qualified in 1993 and spent six years in general practice, during this time he found prosthodontics difficult and unpredictable. This led him to leave general dental practice and gain a further seven years formal training in prosthodontics and restorative dentistry at Manchester and Liverpool dental hospitals prior to establishing his specialist referral practice in 2007.

He concentrates his professional life within three areas of removable prosthodontics, namely; clinical provision for patients, training/lecturing/mentorship for dental professionals and research and development.
