What to expect

The lecture will explain why having a good level of awareness and understanding of EDI issues is relevant to all dentists in tackling discrimination in dentistry and creating a fairer workplaces. The work of the BDA Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee will be outlined and some of the best learning resources reviewed.

Instead of paying a fee, we kindly request for you to give a donation to the BDA Benevolent Fund.

Learning objectives

  • To have knowledge of the BDA Governance Structure and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Workplan and Strategy
  • To have knowledge of EDI work in the BDA and in other organisations relevant to dentists
  • To understand the importance of education and training in EDI issues to recognise bias, correct poor judgement and tackle discrimination in dentistry.

Meet the speaker

Laura Cross Laura Cross Branch President and a BDA Board (PEC) member

As Chair of Education and Ethics, Laura is one of three Senior Officers of the BDA Board. Laura is also a BDA Trustee and Co-Chairs the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She represented hospital dental consultants on BDA Committees and the BMA Scottish Consultants' Committee.

Qualifying from Edinburgh University in 1990. In 2004 she was appointed as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry. She has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and has received several postgraduate prizes.
