Loads of great CPD courses, access to so many journals and books but best of all support if you need it and they seem to always work with the dentist in mind.

FAQs: CPD for dental professionals in the UK

Dentists must complete 250 hours of dental CPD every five years, including 75 verifiable hours. You must also complete 10 verifiable hours in every two-year period and submit an annual CPD declaration to stay compliant with GDC requirements throughout your cycle.

More on GDC CPD requirements

All DCPs must complete 150 hours of CPD over five years, with the number of verifiable hours varying by role: hygienists, therapists, orthodontic therapists, and clinical dental technicians need 75 verifiable hours; whilst dental nurses and dental technicians need 50 verifiable hours.

See full breakdown

Verifiable CPD is formally recorded, with a certificate showing the topic, date, provider and hours. Non-verifiable CPD includes self-directed learning, for example, journal reading, practice meetings, or reflection. Only verifiable CPD counts toward the GDC’s minimum verifiable requirements.

Failing to meet GDC CPD requirements can result in removal from the Register. In exceptional cases, you can apply for mitigation or a grace period. Keeping accurate records and a personal development plan helps you stay compliant and prepare for potential GDC audits.
