Scotland: Updated requirements for waste audits

NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) have provided further clarity on recently published waste audit requirements.

A letter outlining urgent information for all General Dental Practices confirmed that waste audits are required due to regulation and if you do not complete these, waste will not be collected from your practice. Board Waste Management Officers have been approaching dental practices for access to waste, and to audit waste management procedures.

To ensure you are compliant, a Producer Pre-Acceptance Audit must be completed. Clinical waste contractors are subject to these requirements being met and the audits provide reassurance they will not breach their permit.

According to NHS NSS, further information will be shared from your board or nationally over the next few weeks.
